It is primarily used in the production of cyclohexanol and cyclohexanone and is widely employed as a solvent in the coatings industry. It serves as a solvent and is also utilized in organic synthesis, as an extraction solvent, and as a pigment diluent. Most cyclohexane is consumed in the manufacture of adipic acid, caprolactam, and hexamethylenediamine—accounting for 98% of total usage—while a smaller portion is used to produce cyclohexylamine and other applications, such as a solvent for cellulose ethers, fats, oils, waxes, bitumen, resins, and rubbers; as an organic and recrystallization medium; and as a remover for paints and varnishes. It can also serve as a raw material for nylon 6 and nylon 66, as well as a diluent in polymerization reactions, a paint stripping agent, a detergent, an adipic acid extractant, and a binder.

Purpose

Packaging and Storage & Transportation

Cyclohexane should be stored in a cool, well-ventilated warehouse, away from sources of ignition and heat. The temperature in hazardous‑materials storage areas must not exceed 30°C, and containers must remain tightly sealed. It should be stored separately from oxidizing agents; mixing is strictly prohibited—this is well understood by international freight forwarders. Explosion‑proof lighting and ventilation systems must be used. The use of machinery and tools that could generate sparks is forbidden. The storage area should be equipped with emergency spill‑response equipment and suitable containment materials.
