Ammonium sulfate

CAS NO:

7783-20-2

An excellent nitrogen fertilizer—commonly known as “fertilizer powder”—is suitable for most soils and crops. It promotes vigorous vegetative growth, enhances fruit quality and yield, and strengthens the crop’s resistance to adverse conditions. It can be used as a base fertilizer, a topdressing, or a seed fertilizer. Ammonium sulfate can undergo metathesis reactions with table salt to produce ammonium chloride, react with aluminum sulfate to form ammonium alum, and, together with boric acid, be employed in the manufacture of refractory materials. When added to electroplating solutions, it improves electrical conductivity. It also serves as a catalyst for producing food colorants, provides a nitrogen source for cultivating yeast in fresh‑yeast production, acts as an auxiliary mordant in acid dyeing, and functions as a de‑ashing agent in leather processing. Ammonium sulfate is highly soluble and can create a high‑salt environment, facilitating protein precipitation and subsequent purification under high‑salt conditions. Its solubility differs significantly between 0°C and room temperature (25°C); below are the molar concentrations corresponding to different saturation levels at these two temperatures.

    Purpose

An excellent nitrogen fertilizer—commonly known as “fertilizer powder”—is suitable for most soils and crops. It promotes vigorous vegetative growth, enhances fruit quality and yield, and strengthens the crop’s resistance to adverse conditions. It can be used as a base fertilizer, a topdressing, or a seed fertilizer. It reacts with common salt via a double displacement reaction to produce ammonium chloride; it also forms ammonium alum when combined with aluminum sulfate, and, together with boric acid, is employed in the manufacture of refractory materials. When added to electroplating solutions, it improves electrical conductivity. Additionally, it serves as a catalyst in the production of food colorants, provides a nitrogen source for cultivating yeast in fresh‑yeast production, acts as an auxiliary mordant in acid dyeing, and functions as a de‑ashing agent in leather processing. Ammonium sulfate exhibits very high solubility, enabling the creation of highly saline environments that facilitate protein precipitation and subsequent purification under high-salt conditions. Its solubility differs significantly between 0°C and room temperature (25°C); below are the molar concentrations corresponding to different saturation levels at these two temperatures.

    Packaging and Storage & Transportation

Ammonium sulfate should be stored in a cool, well-ventilated warehouse, away from heat sources, and kept separately from acids and bases. Do not mix or store and transport it together with these substances. The storage area must be equipped with appropriate containers for ammonium sulfate, and measures must be taken to prevent leaks during transportation. Prior to shipment, ammonium sulfate must be securely packaged; during transit, packaging containers must remain intact, preventing leakage, collapse, dropping, or damage. During transport, protect the material from direct sunlight, rain, and high temperatures.
