Used in organic synthesis. Serves as a pesticide stabilizer, an antifreeze additive for diesel engine oil, and more. 2-Methyl-2,4-pentanediol exhibits penetrative properties and demonstrates excellent dispersing ability toward inorganic substances. In addition to its use as a solvent, it is also employed in dry-cleaning agents, automotive brake fluids, printing inks, pigment dispersants, wood preservatives, and other applications. It is utilized as a solvent, fragrance ingredient, medical disinfectant, fabric penetrant, and auxiliary agent in papermaking and leather processing.
