It is used in organic synthesis and the polymerization of macromolecular compounds. Primarily, it serves to produce polyamides such as nylon 66 and nylon 610; it is also employed in the synthesis of diisocyanates and as a curing agent or organic crosslinking agent for urea–formaldehyde resins, epoxy resins, and other materials. Hexamethylenediamine can be produced from adiponitrile, hexanediol, and caprolactam, but nearly all large-scale production processes start from adiponitrile.

Purpose
